Former Bayelsa State Governor and National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, has criticised the activities of the OK Movement, arguing that political support groups should not operate as rival structures to the parties they support.
Dickson spoke while receiving former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, into the NDC.
According to the former governor, support groups are established to complement political parties and their candidates through grassroots mobilisation and campaign activities, rather than compete with party structures for influence or control.
Dickson said the NDC had created room for various support groups, including groups associated with the Obidient movement, and remained open to working with additional organisations interested in supporting the party.
He argued that support groups should focus on mobilising voters, promoting candidates and strengthening grassroots support for the party.
Criticising the OK Movement, Dickson described its reported activities as unusual and argued that support groups should not present themselves as alternative political structures or campaign organisations.
He maintained that such groups should remain within their traditional role of supporting candidates and political parties rather than publicly attacking the parties they claim to support.
Dickson said the NDC would continue to accommodate different support groups while encouraging them to work within the party’s established structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
