The Chairman of Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State, Hon. Nuhu Majeed Podo, has said the council introduced additional security measures to protect lives and property and address prevailing security challenges in the area.
Podo disclosed this while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the unveiling of his administration’s scorecard for its second year in office.
He said the council employed an additional 150 security personnel, distributed 50 motorcycles for community surveillance, upgraded the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) outpost at Alagbado to a full division, and donated a Sienna bus for patrol operations.
The council chairman commended President Bola Tinubu for introducing reforms that had made more funds available for grassroots development.
He said his administration, with the support of Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, had executed projects across the 11 wards in the local government.
In the education sector, Podo said the council renovated classrooms and principals’ offices in schools, distributed writing materials to reduce educational expenses for parents, constructed a multipurpose hall at Sheikh Abdul Salam Junior Secondary School, Ilorin, and sponsored the education of 30 students at the College of Health Sciences, Osogbo.
“We also constructed a multipurpose hall at Sheikh Abdul Salam Junior Secondary School and named it the Mutawalli of Ilorin Hall, in recognition of the importance of supporting educational development. Through the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), we also facilitated the renovation of junior secondary schools, including schools in Isale Maliki, Ajibesin, and other communities across the local government”.

Podo said he received the 2025 Nigerian Local Government Chairmen Merit Award for distributing 17 transformers serving hundreds of communities.
He added that the council had drilled boreholes and repaired existing ones across the 11 wards.
His administration, he said, had also graded rural roads and carried out interlocking works at 10 locations, including Alangua Okaka, Alangua Tanke, Alangua Oke-Ogun, Ile Podo, Ile Apata, Balogun Afin, and Ita Amodu.
Podo further disclosed that the council refurbished seven official vehicles and procured vehicles for the vice chairman, speaker, DPM, treasurer, and legislative arm to improve efficiency in their operations.
The chairman was flanked by the vice chairman, Hon. Joel Mary Abiodun; council secretary, Mohammed Hameed; and speaker of the legislative arm, Hon. Jimoh Taibat Tope, during the unveiling of the scorecard.
