A Nigerian man has sparked emotional conversations online after recounting a touching encounter with a woman on a flight from Abuja to Lagos, where she opened up about her troubled marriage and emotional struggles within her faith community.
The man, who shared the experience on X, formerly known as Twitter, said the woman sat beside him during the flight and quietly wept throughout part of the journey.
According to him, her tears were not loud or dramatic, but the kind that revealed deep emotional pain.
He explained that after some time, the woman apologised for crying and disclosed that she had recently discovered her husband had cheated on her with someone from their church.
The revelation reportedly led to a lengthy and emotional conversation between both passengers during the flight.
While speaking with him, the woman raised a difficult question about faith, marriage, and emotional endurance among Christians.
“Do you think Christians stay in bad marriages too long because they’re scared of disappointing God?” she asked.
The man admitted he did not respond immediately, as the question left him reflecting deeply.
The woman further expressed frustration over the advice she had continued receiving from people around her.
“Everybody keeps telling me to pray harder, forgive faster, fight for my home… but nobody asks if I’m emotionally surviving,” she said.
According to the man, those words remained with him long after the conversation ended.
He noted that many people often celebrate sacrifice without considering the emotional burden carried by the person making those sacrifices.
He added that emotional pain can become even more confusing within religious communities, where individuals are sometimes expected to endure hardship silently while appearing spiritually strong.
