Kim Kardashian is being vocal about her struggles with an incurable skin condition.
The reality TV star and businesswoman shared some ways she has managed to cope with her skin disorder, psoriasis, which also affects her mother, Kris Jenner. After years of struggling to find a treatment that works, the TV personality has finally made headway.
Kim Kardashian, despite being a public figure, did not keep her health challenges under wraps. She previously shared the graphic details of her psoriasis flare-ups on her online platforms.
Kardashian revealed that the only way she managed her painful skin disorder was to wrap herself up like a mummy. She explained that she stuck with plastic wrap because it was somewhat effective.
“In the daytime. I would have to put on an ointment and then wrap it in Saran Wrap at nighttime. So I used to have Saran Wrap by the side of my bed,” she disclosed. The TV personality explained that the wraps helped the medicated ointments work on her skin by “really locking it in.”
She implemented this method as a helpful means for managing her psoriasis, not minding the noise from the plastic. She shared that it made her “sleep like a crunchy Tin Man. If I got up, you would hear crunch, crunch, crunch. When I would walk, [it was] like a diaper.”
According to The Cleveland Clinic, Psoriasis is an autoimmune condition that causes inflammation in the skin. It manifests with symptoms such as thick, discolored patches of skin covered with scales, called plaques. Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition that can flare up unexpectedly, and there’s no cure.
The Reality TV Star Has Found Medicine To Help With The Condition
5While psoriasis has no cure, some treatments, such as topical creams, can help manage symptoms. Kardashian told PEOPLE that in addition to trying medicated ointments to help soothe her skin, she also tried go-to steroids, but they did not help.
A friend of the mom of four then recommended a supplement, Broc Shot, after other solutions failed and the condition had become a thorn in her flesh. Broc Shot’s main component is sulforaphane, derived from broccoli seed, and is available in capsule form, as well as flavored powders that dissolve in water.
The supplement has helped Kardashian not just with the physical struggles of the disease but also with the mental battle of insecurity that accompanies her flare-ups.
“My confidence level and how I felt about my skin went up and down based on how bad it would get. Broc Shot helped me get everything under control,” the SKIMS founder expressed.
5Kardashian’s social media account documents the good, the bad, and the ugly. Two years ago, she shared videos showing her psoriasis flare-up on her leg. The series of videos shared on her Instagram Stories at the time showed close-up footage of a large reddish patch on her shin.
“How crazy is my psoriasis right now, guys? It’s like all up my leg. I don’t know what’s happening. But I gotta figure this out. This is crazy,” she was heard saying in the background of the video.
The fashion model noted that she was sharing her journey with fans but was not sure what triggered the flare-up in the caption, adding that it was very “painful.” PEOPLE reported that Kardashian used her tanning bed as a type of treatment to help when her condition got bad.
The SKIMS Founder Tested Positive For Other Autoimmune Diseases
5An episode of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” that aired in September 2019 revealed that the TV star who shares four kids with her ex-husband, Kanye “Ye” West, had tested positive for two autoimmune antibodies.
Kardashian had tested positive for lupus and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) antibodies; however, an official diagnosis was not made at the time. The model shared that she decided to seek a medical opinion after noticing certain symptoms.
Healthline reported that the TV personality disclosed she often felt tired, nauseous, and had swollen yet numb hands. While more details were not revealed initially, the entrepreneur shared that she was placed on medication for the symptoms.
Future episodes of the show kept fans updated, and medical evaluations confirmed that the initial results were false positives. She was then diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis, a condition linked to her psoriasis.
Kim Kardashian Follows An Extensive Wellness Regimen
5A few months ago, Kardashian got candid about the wellness routine she sticks to to stay healthy. She also admitted that she sometimes gets tired of the regimen because it is so extensive.
The mom of four revealed that she has something described as “pill fatigue” because she takes up to 35 supplements daily. To ensure she does not feel too overwhelmed by the number of pills she has to swallow, the model shared that she spreads them out to take three times a day.
The socialite shared that she became more proactive about her health after doctors discovered a brain aneurysm during a Prenuvo body scan. At the time, she attributed the aneurysm to the intense chronic stress she faced during her divorce from Ye.
Kardashian is not the only one in her family who puts their health and wellness at the top of their priority list. First For Women also reported that the members of the Kardashian-Jenner clan regularly undergo mobile DEXA scans to monitor their bone density and overall health.
What other ways would Kim Kardashian explore to help with her condition?
