Tiffany Haddish has resolved the Georgia DUI case that remained open for more than four years. The 46-year-old comedian appeared in court virtually on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to misdemeanor “DUI driving less safe,” an alcohol-related offense stemming from her January 2022 arrest.
Haddish will not serve additional jail time under the plea agreement. However, the “Girls Trip” star received a one-year probation and had her driving privileges in Georgia suspended.
She must also abstain from drugs and alcohol, submit to testing, complete a DUI course and perform 40 hours of community service, according to reports. Haddish will periodically check in with probation officials by telephone, although that requirement may be reviewed after six months.
Other misdemeanor charges connected to the arrest were dismissed as part of the resolution.

5Haddish was arrested during the early hours of January 14, 2022, in Peachtree City, Georgia.
Authorities received a report about a driver who had allegedly fallen asleep behind the wheel. Police later stopped Haddish after she pulled into the yard of a residence, according to information released by the Peachtree City Police Department at the time.
The comedian was taken to the Fayette County Jail before being released on a $1,666 bond. She spent less than four hours in custody and received credit for that time under the new agreement.
The case remained unresolved for more than four years before Haddish entered her guilty plea.
5Months before accepting the plea agreement, Haddish’s attorneys asked the Georgia court to dismiss the case, arguing that the prolonged proceedings had violated her constitutional right to a speedy trial. Her legal team claimed the delay was “presumptively prejudicial” and noted that the court had not entered rulings on key matters for more than two years after a May 2024 hearing on a motion to suppress evidence.
The attorneys said they had declared themselves “ready for trial” on at least 10 occasions and followed up with the court 12 times about the outstanding rulings. They also claimed the pending criminal case interfered with Haddish’s professional opportunities and international travel.
“She has had difficulty obtaining the proper travel documents to work in certain countries who see a pending case as a concern; most recently Australia, within the past couple of months,” her attorneys said in the filingm adding that Haddish “has had to hire costly third-party help to navigate those challenges with her travel.”
Her lawyers also argued that the passage of time could weaken witnesses’ memories and make it more difficult to defend her effectively. “Ms. Haddish respectfully requests that the court find that this substantial delay without any apparent justification was in violation of her constitutional rights to a speedy trial under the United States and Georgia Constitutions and that the accusation against her be dismissed,” they wrote.

5The court ultimately declined to dismiss the charges. According to CBS News Atlanta, Fayette County Judge Jason B. Thompson acknowledged the case’s lengthy timeline but found that Haddish had waited years before formally asserting her speedy-trial right.
“The failure to assert the speedy trial right makes it difficult for a defendant to prove he was denied a speedy trial,” Thompson wrote while citing an earlier case. “The fact that the Defendant just recently asserted her speedy trial right weighs heavily against the Defendant.”
The judge also determined that the defense had not demonstrated that the delay caused Haddish actual harm in preparing her case. “There is no evidence that the delay caused the loss of a witness, the destruction of evidence, documented financial impairment, or other documented impairment to the Defendant and her defense,” he wrote.
With her request denied and a trial approaching, Haddish instead resolved the case through the guilty plea.
Haddish Was Arrested Again In Beverly Hills
5The Georgia incident was not Haddish’s only impaired-driving arrest. In November 2023, Beverly Hills police found the actress asleep inside a vehicle that was stopped on Beverly Drive with its engine running.
Authorities initially arrested her on suspicion of driving under the influence. The matter was resolved in February 2024 after Haddish pleaded no contest to a lesser vehicle-code violation commonly described as reckless driving involving alcohol.
The two misdemeanor DUI charges in that case were dismissed as part of the agreement. Haddish received one year of summary probation, 40 hours of community service and several educational requirements following the California case.
Her attorney said at the time, “Ms. Haddish has agreed to a simple vehicle code violation (not driving under the influence, which has been dismissed) and looks forward to this being behind her.”
