The governorship candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State and former Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has challenged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to provide evidence to support allegations that local government funds were diverted through his son, Mujahid Aminu Abdussalam.
Gwarzo was reacting to claims made by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who alleged that funds belonging to local government councils were channelled to the former deputy governor through his son.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, Gwarzo described the allegations as false, baseless and a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation.
He maintained that the accusations lacked any factual basis and called on the state government to produce credible and verifiable evidence to substantiate its claims.
“The allegations are nothing but a product of the Governor’s imagination and have no foundation in fact.
“We challenge the accuser to present concrete evidence to support these malicious claims. Repeating allegations in the media does not amount to proof,” the statement read.
The former deputy governor said he had built his public service career on the principles of transparency, accountability and respect for the rule of law.
Gwarzo expressed confidence that the truth would prevail and urged members of the public to disregard what he described as unfounded allegations aimed at discrediting him.
