The remains of former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, have arrived in Abuja as the state begins preparations for his final burial rites.
The remains arrived at the International Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Thursday, where they were received by Kogi State Governor and Chief Mourner, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, alongside other dignitaries.
Governor Ododo was accompanied by former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello; another former governor, Captain Idris Ichalla Wada; senior government officials; political leaders; traditional rulers; members of the late governor’s family and sympathisers.
The solemn reception marked another stage in the final journey of the former governor, whose death has continued to attract tributes from political leaders, residents and other Nigerians.
The atmosphere at the airport was subdued and emotional as political leaders who served in different administrations in Kogi State gathered to receive the remains of one of the state’s former governors.
Idris served as Governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2008 and played a significant role in the state’s political development during his tenure.
His remains are expected to be taken for further funeral arrangements as the state and his family prepare to lay him to rest.
