The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship hopeful in Ogun State, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, has expressed concern over the omission of his name from the list of candidates for the 2027 governorship election published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), insisting that he completed his digital registration with the party within the stipulated period.
In a statement issued on Sunday and addressed to the people of Ogun State, Adebutu said his membership card had been printed and verified, while the necessary documents had been submitted to INEC on time.
He insisted that he remained the party’s duly nominated candidate and maintained that he had neither defected from the PDP nor abandoned his commitment to the party.
The governorship hopeful expressed confidence that the issue would be resolved through the appropriate channels.
He explained that the governorship primary that produced him as the PDP candidate was conducted in the presence of INEC officials, who attended as observers, while relevant documents were presented for verification and certification.
Adebutu, however, expressed concern over what he described as undue pressure allegedly mounted on INEC by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He argued that the omission raised questions, particularly as other PDP candidates contesting legislative seats had reportedly appeared on the published lists.
He said the party would pursue the matter through the appropriate channels and insist on strict adherence to due process. He also alleged that the PDP had faced several challenges in its political activities in the state, including restrictions on campaign billboards, attacks at campaign venues and harassment of members.
Adebutu urged party members and supporters to remain peaceful, calm and steadfast, stressing that no form of intimidation should deny the people of Ogun State the opportunity to freely choose their leaders.
“Our cause is bigger than any individual. It is about the dignity of our people, the progress of our state and the right of Ogun people to determine our own future,” he said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the party’s campaign message, describing “Ogun for Ogun” as a call for leadership rooted in the interests and welfare of the people.
Adebutu assured his supporters that he would not abandon the struggle to provide what he described as the leadership and relief the state deserved.
“We remain focused. We remain resolute. The journey to a better Ogun continues,” he declared.
