Muslims are making bombs in “self-defense” amid widespread rioting in the wake of Ramadan, an Indian lawmaker claims. The outrageous statement was made by Mohammad Nehaluddin, a member of the Bihar state legislative from the ruling left-wing Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) party, the Indian media outlets report.

India’s nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slammed the Bihar state government for harboring jihad sympathizers such as Nehaluddin. The state government “crossed the limit when their Minister Mohammad Nehaluddin said that they are manufacturing bombs for self-defense,” Vijay Kumar Sinha, the leader of the state’s opposition BJP party, said.

He also accused the Bihar government of enabling terrorist indoctrination through the Islamic madrasa schools. “The government is making Bihar a city of terrorists. By becoming the shelter of these madrasas, the government is creating riot,” the BJP state leader warned.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA Mohammad Nehaluddin has made an objectionable statement in wake of riots in Bihar’s Sasaram district. The lawmaker said that Muslims were making bombs in self-defence.

RJD MLA Mohammad Nehaluddin said that some members belonging to the Muslim community were making bombs in self-defense. What would they have done if they had died… Muslim children had to do this to save their lives… they had to do this in self-defense, he said.

The RJD MLA further hit out at the Centre and alleged that BJP is doing this to win 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar inthe  2024 elections and to impose President’s rule in the state.

Sasaram witnessed violence during the procession taken out during Ram Navami. Many people were injured in this incident. Post this violence, heavy security has been deployed in the district.

India is witnessing large-scale riots as Muslim fasting month of Ramadan coincide with the Hindu festival season of Rama Navami.

Authorities in the Indian capital have Hindus to hold traditional processions in certain area to mark the festivities amid fears of enraging Muslims.

The Delhi police “denied permission to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and another group to hold processions in the Jahangirpuri locality of the national capital on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti,” The Hindustan Times newspaper reported. The Hindu religious organizations “had sought permission to conduct processions for Hanuman Jayanti, but due to concerns regarding the law and order situation, the organisers were not given permission,” the newspaper concluded.
