An unexpected seizure caused by encephalitis (or inflammation of the brain tissue) led her into a coma. Furthermore, when she woke up, she did not recognize anybody. It was a horrific experience for the Bernthal family.

To add, her father was just about to start preparing for his role in the film, First Man. But, due to the unfortunate incident, he had to leave his job and be present for his baby girl. The star also talked about it during his interview with Men’s Health.

He expressed how he was in a panic state while his daughter lay in a coma. However, his wife stood strong and helped him keep calm. In his own words, she was “posing love into our daughter every step of the way.” Being a former trauma nurse, Erin knew exactly how to take care of her girl.

He said,

“People talk about bravery like fake macho bravery, but my wife didn’t flinch. What I saw in my wife was caurage and beauty unlike I’d ever seen.”

Eventually, time healed everything. Adeline is now a healthy and happy little girl enjoying her parents’ cozy embrace.
