Borussia Dortmund took a significant step towards their first Champions League final since 2013 with a narrow 1-0 victory in the first leg of their semi-final clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

Niclas Fullkrug found the back of the net with a clinical finish in the first half, while Jadon Sancho showcased glimpses of his top form as his loan spell from Manchester United approaches its conclusion.

Both teams had ample opportunities to score more goals, with chances created at both ends as the game progressed. However, it was Dortmund who emerged with the lead, leaving PSG with a challenging task ahead.

PSG came close to equalizing twice early in the second half, with Kylian Mbappe hitting the post before Achraf Hakimi’s effort struck the woodwork. Fabian Ruiz also missed a golden opportunity with a header.

Dortmund responded with chances of their own, including a volley from Julian Brandt and a header from Fullkrug, while appeals for a penalty were waved away after a challenge on Fullkrug.

The visitors continued to press, with Mbappe and substitute Randal Kolo Muani testing Dortmund’s defense, but goalkeeper Gregor Kobel made crucial saves to maintain the lead.

Despite late opportunities for both sides, Dortmund held on for the win, setting up an intriguing second leg in Paris.
