IGP VISITS AKWA IBOM, OVERSEES PASSING-OUT OF 1,068 RETRAINED CONSTABLES

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu,paid an official visit to Akwa Ibom State, where he held a courtesy meeting with the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, ahead of the passing-out ceremony of retrained police constables in Uyo.

This was revealed in a statement issued on April 30, 2026, by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid.

Discussions during the visit centred on deepening cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force and the state government, particularly in advancing ongoing policing reforms focused on professionalism, accountability, and intelligence-driven operations. The Inspector-General reaffirmed the Force’s resolve to build a modern institution that delivers efficient, people-oriented policing and strengthens public confidence.

In his remarks, Governor Umo Eno welcomed the IGP and praised the Nigeria Police Force for its reform initiatives aimed at enhancing discipline, professionalism, and service delivery. He assured continued support from the state government in efforts to maintain security and protect residents.

The Inspector-General later presided over the passing-out parade of 1,068 retrained constables at the Police Mobile Force Base, 26 PMF, Uyo.

Addressing the officers, the IGP described the retraining programme as a strategic step to improve operational effectiveness, with emphasis on weapons handling, discipline, and strict compliance with rules of engagement, including Force Order 237. He stressed that effective policing goes beyond bravery, requiring professionalism, restraint, and respect for human rights.

Reiterating the Force’s firm stance, the IGP warned against misuse of firearms and extra-judicial actions, noting that any officer found guilty would face immediate dismissal and prosecution in line with the law.

He also commended the Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, for successfully implementing the retraining exercise, highlighting the inclusion and performance of female officers as a commendable model for other commands across the country.

The Inspector-General further acknowledged recent operational gains in the state, including the rescue of kidnapped victims along the Calabar–Oron waterways, describing such achievements as evidence of the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and collaboration among security agencies.

The Nigeria Police Force, he noted, remains committed to building a professional, accountable, and citizen-focused organisation capable of addressing evolving security challenges nationwide.
