A woman has shared her experience of how her former husband allegedly took her through unusual spiritual practices during their 13-year marriage.
In an interview with Tuko, the woman identified as Paulette Wanjiru revealed that she experienced difficult moments while married to her ex-husband, whom she said was deeply interested in seeking wealth through spiritual means.

According to Paulette, she endured physical abuse during the marriage, and over time, her husband began bringing different spiritual practitioners to their home.
She claimed that her ex-husband travelled to Tanzania and other places in search of wealth, while some rituals were carried out inside their home and others involved visits to cemeteries at night.
She also explained that during that period, her husband was involved in a court case after a friend gave him KSh800,000, and he was searching for ways to resolve the situation.
Paulette said her husband would often travel while claiming he was visiting friends, but she later discovered that he was involved in activities she did not understand.
She said: “So things started to boil over so he went to Kamba land and he did his own things there are things, there are things that even in my dreams I never thought would happen like something like that that would never happen so he’d go and then he would not tell me anything when he came back. The he would go to kisii and come back sometimes i would womder where he used to go when i go to his home, I would call him and he would pick up the phone we would talk and he would tell me he would come back the next day he would tell me that they were farming and he would come back once they are done so sometimes he would be available for 2 days.”
The woman further revealed that her ex-husband once brought a man into their home who introduced himself as a medicine doctor, but she later became suspicious after overhearing their conversations.
She said: “And then they would wake up at night and then light a fire with eggs, then sometimes, he (The witchdoctor) would cane him (Her ex husabnd) I dont know what that meant but what i do hear in their conversation was they were talking about the case and riches”
Paulette claimed that the man told her husband that they needed to be united in order for things to work, which led her husband to pressure her into taking part in the practices.
She said: “So that was when He (Her ex husband) went to town and he bought a red and black piece of cloth and he told me to go and tie it on myself then i asked him where can i wrap it is it the head or where??? He then told me why do i also behave like I’m stupid he told me to go and remove my clothes and wrap myself with that piece of cloth and I told hm I wasn’t removing my clothes. We went to the bedroom and he slapped me because i refused to do what they were saying.”
She also narrated how she was instructed to wear a particular dress and repeat words spoken by the spiritual practitioner during the process.
She said: “That time, the Witch doctor then told me that he understood me then he then told me to go and wear a dress that i would never wear again and I went to change int any dress I remember It was black and white …. I don’t even wear black and white clothes anymore …. so i went and changed and then told me to repeat whatever he was saying I told him I could not repeat what he was saying my Ex could speak Kikiyu so he would translate it for me and then he (Her ex) would threaten me…”
Paulette further claimed that she was given chicks as part of the ritual and was instructed to hit them on the ground, but they survived.
She added: “When i threw the chicks to the ground, they just walked away and he (Her ex husband) told me to hit them against the ground till they died i hot them but they still walked then he slapped me in front of the witch doctor and he warned him not to do that.”
She also alleged that the spiritual practitioner cut her face with a razor blade, collected money from her, and gave her a substance to rub on her hands while promising that she would become wealthy.
She said: “I went and looked for it i found 200 shillings and I gave it to him he then remove something from a oil and told me to rub it on my hands I rubbed it and he told me I would become rich and then i wasn’t believing in anything he was saying”
