A lady has taken to social media to narrate how an online interaction on TikTok allegedly ended in disappointment after a man she met on the platform blocked her immediately after she sent him transport fare.
Online connection turns sour
The lady said the incident began when the man contacted her via direct message and later requested to visit her.
According to her, she declined initially due to safety concerns, citing recent incidents of fraud and violence involving online meetups.
She explained that she insisted he visit her first so her family could meet him before any personal visit was considered.
₦5,000 transfer and sudden block
She further claimed that the man later said he had no money for transportation, prompting her to send him ₦5,000 to facilitate the visit.
However, shortly after receiving the money, she alleged that he blocked her on all communication platforms.
“I was on my own when this guy DMed me on TikTok. If I hadn’t replied, they would say I have pride. I told him to come and visit me first so my people can see him. He said he had no transport, so I sent ₦5k. Immediately he got the money, he blocked me everywhere,” she said.
She added, “I don’t even know if it was something else he used on me. If I ever see him, I will make sure I deal with him.”
Cases of alleged online dating scams have increased in Nigeria in recent years, with similar reports in 2023 and 2024 involving victims sending money to individuals they met on social media before being blocked.
