The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has launched a manhunt for a driver who allegedly crashed into a cooking gas plant in Kubwa, triggering a major fire outbreak on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. at Liberty Junction in the Byazhin area, according to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh.
Preliminary police investigations revealed that the driver of an unregistered Toyota 4Runner was driving against traffic when he lost control and plowed directly into the facility.
Following the impact, the driver and other occupants of the vehicle abandoned the jeep and fled the scene.
Officers from the Kubwa Police Division rushed to the location after receiving a distress call, while the Federal Fire Service deployed units to contain the raging inferno before it could cause further devastation to nearby shops and properties.
Authorities confirmed that no casualties were recorded during the incident, though the total monetary value of the destroyed property remains undetermined.
The police have successfully identified the fleeing driver and assured residents that he will be brought to justice.
Normal commercial activities have since resumed in the neighborhood, with the command urging the public to maintain vigilance and report any suspicious activities through its emergency contact lines.
