A heartbroken mother has cried out on social media after doctors reportedly informed her that her 17-year-old daughter was born without a womb.
The story was reposted on Facebook by Mary Udoka Ajoku, who expressed sadness over the young girl’s condition and appealed to the public to offer advice and encouragement.
According to the mother, she became worried after her daughter had still not started menstruating at the age of 17, despite already being in 100 level at the university.
She added that she initially believed there was no cause for alarm because different girls develop at different stages.
Hospital Visit Reveals Rare Condition
The mother revealed she later took her daughter to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) after the teenager became increasingly anxious about not menstruating like her peers.
After several medical tests, doctors reportedly diagnosed the teenager with Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome (MRKH), a rare condition where a girl is born without a uterus.
Sharing her pain online, the mother wrote:
“My 17-year-old daughter has never seen her period. I was not too worried at 16. I told her our bodies are different, so there was no need to worry, but she started getting anxious since all her friends already menstruate.”
“I took her to LASUTH, and after several tests, the doctor said she has MRKH, that she was born without a womb.”
Mother Struggles to Break the News
The frustrated mother revealed that she has not yet shown her daughter the test results because she fears the emotional impact it may have on her.
“I didn’t show her the results that day, but I’ve been terrified since she keeps asking for the full results, and I keep lying that the doctor is still reviewing it,” she said.
She added that her daughter often talks about marriage and having children in the future, making the situation even more painful.
“How do I tell a 17-year-old that she will never menstruate or carry a pregnancy? She talks about future husbands and children. My heart breaks every time,” she added.
Online Reactions
The emotional post has since sparked reactions online, with many social media users expressing sympathy for the teenager and encouraging the mother to seek proper counselling and emotional support before breaking the news.
