The Cross River State Police Command says its Violence Crime Response Unit, VCRU, has arrested six suspects in connection with two separate robbery cases in Calabar, including a ₦49.1 million burglary at an electronics company.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, disclosed this in a press statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
According to the Command, operatives arrested four members of a six-man gang allegedly involved in the burglary of Royaline Technologies on 49 Ettagbor Road, Calabar, on June 3, 2026.
The suspects were identified as Hassan Ahmad, 38; Jabiru Ibrahim, 35; Usman Isa Garuba, 22; and Abdullalim Hassan, 23.
Police said Ibrahim was traced to Kano State and arrested on September 2, 2026, before being brought to Calabar on September 3.
The arrest, CP Ordue noted, was made possible through “investigative diligence, intelligence gathering and interstate coordination.”
Preliminary investigation revealed that 62 mobile phones of various models, accessories, speakers, earphones and ₦529,000 cash were allegedly stolen during the incident. The total value of the stolen property is estimated at ₦49,150,715.
“Concerted efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the alleged gang and recover the stolen property,” the statement said.
2 Suspects Arrested Over Alleged Filling-Station Robberies
In a second operation on September 9, 2026, VCRU operatives responded to a distress call at a filling station around the University of Calabar area.
Two male suspects, Samuel Udo Udo, 29, and Ezekiel Dominic, 22, had been apprehended by an angry mob and were at risk of being lynched. Police rescued them and took them into custody.
Preliminary investigation indicates the duo allegedly posed as customers buying fuel before threatening attendants and fleeing with the product. 20 litres of petrol and a blue tricycle were recovered. The Command said efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other persons connected to the activities.
CP Condemns Jungle Justice, Pledges Sustained Crackdown
CP Ordue commended the VCRU operatives and directed that both cases be thoroughly investigated with all culpable persons prosecuted according to law.
He also condemned jungle justice, urging members of the public to hand over suspected offenders to the Police rather than resort to violence.
“All suspects remain presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction,” the statement added.
The Commissioner assured residents that intelligence-led operations against robbery, burglary and other criminal activities would be sustained across the state, and called for continued public support with timely and credible information.
