BREAKING: Lagos Government Makes LASRRA Registration Compulsory For Pupils And Students
The Lagos State Government has made registration with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency compulsory for the enrollment of learners in all public and private schools in the state, beginning with the 2026/2027 academic session.
This was contained in a statement by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Adepeju Adeyemi, made available to PUNCH Online on Friday.
Adeyemi said schools would be required to obtain and record the valid LASRRA registration number of every learner as part of the admission and enrolment process from Monday, September 14, 2026.
She said the directive, approved by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun, was being implemented through the OEQA as part of efforts by the state government to establish a comprehensive and verifiable database of learners in Lagos.
According to the statement, Alli-Balogun said the initiative was part of the government’s broader strategy to develop a reliable database of learners that would improve planning, monitoring and service delivery across the education sector.
The statement quoted the commissioner as saying that capturing learners on the LASRRA database would also improve record-keeping in schools, strengthen learner identification and verification, facilitate tracking, and provide government agencies with credible data for evidence-based decision-making.
Adeyemi said schools had been directed to include each learner’s LASRRA registration number in admission and school records and sensitise parents and guardians about the requirement.
She said schools were also expected to advise parents whose children or wards were yet to register with LASRRA to complete the process ahead of the new academic session.

Adeyemi said the government had, however, directed schools to ensure that learners’ personal information was handled confidentially and securely in line with applicable data-protection requirements.
The statement quoted the Director-General of the OEQA, Dr Sulaimon Olagoke Ogunmuyiwa, as saying that his office, in collaboration with LASRRA and other relevant agencies, would develop modalities for generating and assigning unique PINs to learners.
Ogunmuyiwa said sensitisation, registration and verification support would also be provided to schools, parents, guardians and learners, according to the statement.
He added that compliance with the directive would form part of the OEQA’s monitoring and quality-assurance activities across public and private schools in the state.
