The Anambra State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has described Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, as an outstanding leader and a shining example of good governance ahead of the flag-off of his re-election campaign scheduled for Sunday, November 1, 2026.
The state chapter, led by its chairman, Chief Peter Chukwunulu Okoye, extended its congratulations to Otti and the people of Abia State, expressing confidence in the governor’s leadership and achievements since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
Addressing journalists in Awka, Okoye said Otti had distinguished himself through what he described as landmark achievements across critical sectors of the state economy.
He noted that the governor had become a reference point for good governance and purposeful leadership in Nigeria.
According to him, Otti’s achievements include the completion of 414 road projects covering more than 800 kilometres, including Port Harcourt Road and Ohanku Road in Aba, the six-lane Aguiyi Ironsi Boulevard in Umuahia, Omenuko Bridge and the Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Abiriba-Ohafia Road, while another 82 roads are nearing completion.
He also highlighted the introduction of electric buses and green shuttle services to improve transportation and stimulate economic activities across the state.
On fiscal management, the LP chairman said Otti had reduced Abia’s inherited public debt profile by more than 70 per cent through what he described as disciplined financial management, while maintaining a strong capital expenditure profile.
In the health sector, Okoye said the administration had recruited and deployed nearly 1,000 healthcare professionals across public health facilities, while rehabilitating primary healthcare centres and general hospitals.
He added that the government had allocated approximately 15 per cent of its budget to healthcare delivery.
On education and human capital development, the Anambra LP chairman cited the recruitment of more than 5,000 teachers in a single exercise and the transformation of primary and secondary schools into smart schools.
He further noted that more than N300 million had been earmarked to support technology-based enterprises and youth training in artificial intelligence, software engineering and cybersecurity.
Okoye also commended the Abia governor for regular payment of workers’ salaries and pensions, as well as the introduction of what he described as a transparent, merit-based civil service recruitment process.
On security, he said the administration had adopted technology-driven surveillance and security partnerships to tackle criminal activities in the state.
The LP chairman said the achievements had continued to strengthen the party’s confidence in Otti’s leadership, describing him as a worthy ambassador of the party’s ideals of productivity, prudence and people-oriented governance.
“We in Anambra are very proud of you as our National Leader and a shining ambassador of Labour Party’s ideals of productivity, prudence and people-oriented governance,” he said.
He prayed for God’s blessings, safe journeys for those attending the campaign flag-off and a hitch-free and successful event.
The re-election campaign is scheduled to commence on Sunday, November 1, at the Umuahia Township Stadium, Abia State.
