From Henry Ibya, Makurdi
Kunav Progressive Academics, KPA, has commended the recent reconciliation meeting between Governor Hyacinth Alia and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator George Akume, describing it as a crucial step towards strengthening unity and political stability in the state.
In a statement in Makurdi yesterday signed by 38 dons, including Professor Gowon Ahule, the group said the development reaffirmed the primacy of dialogue over discord and reflected maturity, patriotism and responsibility towards the citizenry.
KPA particularly commended Governor Alia over what it called “exemplary leadership through humility and courage,” noting that his willingness to openly express regret where necessary stood as a testament to his character.
“True leadership is not about infallibility, but accountability and the readiness to place the greater good above personal pride. In doing so, he has set a commendable standard for political leadership in Nigeria,” the statement read.
The group also recognised the role played by Senator Akume in embracing the path of peace, saying it contributed to a conducive atmosphere for constructive engagement and mutual respect.
It commended Akume for calling on party stakeholders and the people of the state to rally behind Governor Alia for a second term.
The academics also commended President Bola Tinubu for his interest and role in fostering unity within the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue State.
According to KPA, Tinubu’s commitment to harmony among party leaders has been instrumental in bridging gaps and averting protracted political crises, appreciating the president’s continued support for Alia’s government, which it said had provided political stability and federal backing for developmental initiatives.
It called on members of the National Assembly and the Benue State House of Assembly to accept the outcome of the reconciliation meeting in good faith and align with its spirit, pointing out that at this critical juncture, unity of purpose among all arms and levels of leadership is imperative.
The group urged Benue people to join hands with the governor in the collective pursuit of peace, stability and the delivery of more dividends of democracy to the people of Benue State.
