76 ISWAP TERRORISTS SURRENDER AS MILITARY SUSTAINS OFFENSIVE

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Acting Military Information Officer at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni. He said the latest wave of surrenders included prominent members of the terrorist group who gave themselves up after intense military pressure.

The North-East theatre of operations covers the six states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe.

According to the statement, the continuous military offensive has significantly weakened terrorist positions, disrupted their command and supply networks, and restricted their ability to operate across the region.

“The development highlights the devastating impact of the sustained offensive by Operation HADIN KAI, which continues to dismantle terrorist strongholds, disrupt command and logistics structures, and deny the insurgents freedom of action across the theatre”.

Captain Goni noted that the military’s sustained operations have continued to diminish the fighting strength of the insurgents while weakening morale within their ranks and leadership.

“Persistent military operations have continued to degrade the terrorists’ combat capabilities while eroding confidence within their ranks and leadership. Within the last week alone, a total of 76 terrorist foot soldiers with some families surrendered to troops”.

He said the surrendered insurgents are being processed in line with existing operational procedures.

“They are currently in a secure location undergoing profiling, debriefing, and other established procedures in accordance with extant operational protocols,” the statement reads in part.

Captain Goni further stated that the latest achievement reflects the success of the Nigerian military’s counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency strategy, which combines precision military operations, intelligence-driven missions and collaboration with other security partners.

He added that “the Operation HADIN KAI remains resolute in its mission to completely defeat terrorism and restore lasting peace and security across the North-East and the pressure on the remaining terrorist elements will continue unabated until they are completely neutralised or forced to surrender”.
