The Youth Sustainable Development Network (YSDN) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), marking a new phase of collaboration aimed at accelerating clean energy adoption, market readiness, capacity building and productive-use energy initiatives across Nigeria.
The agreement, signed in Abuja, reinforces both organisations’ shared commitment to expanding sustainable energy access through stronger institutional collaboration, community-centred implementation and stakeholder engagement.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Honourable Minister responsible for the power sector, Joseph Tegbe, alongside the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Dr Abba Aliyu, and other stakeholders in Nigeria’s energy ecosystem.
Speaking on the significance of the partnership, Damilola Hamid Balogun, Co-founder of the Youth Sustainable Development Network, described the agreement as an important step towards translating national energy priorities into practical outcomes for communities.
“This partnership represents more than the signing of an agreement. It reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that clean energy solutions translate into tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians. At YSDN, we believe that energy access is not just about infrastructure; it is about creating opportunities for enterprise, strengthening local capacity and improving livelihoods. Through this collaboration with the Rural Electrification Agency, we look forward to supporting an enabling ecosystem where policy, market readiness, community engagement and productive-use energy come together to deliver lasting impact across Nigeria”, Balogun said.
According to YSDN, the partnership aligns with its long-standing work in promoting sustainable development through youth engagement, clean energy adoption, policy dialogue and grassroots implementation. The organisation has implemented programmes that strengthen local capacity, improve market readiness and support productive-use energy solutions across communities.
The collaboration is also expected to contribute to ongoing national efforts to improve electricity access, stimulate local economic development and support Nigeria’s broader energy transition objectives through inclusive and sustainable approaches.
YSDN expressed appreciation to the Rural Electrification Agency, development partners and stakeholders for their continued collaboration, noting that the organisation remains committed to working alongside public institutions and the private sector to expand access to reliable, affordable and sustainable energy solutions across Nigeria.
