The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Yobe chapter, says it accepts the outcome of Saturday’s Local Government Elections in the state, describing the exercise as “free, fair and credible”.
The state Chairman of the council, Mr Umar Jajere, said this in Damaturu, on Sunday.
Jajere was reacting to the declaration of the election results by the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC).
He said the success of the elections marked a significant milestone in the political history of the state.
He commended the Chairman of YOSIEC, Dr Ibrahim Yabani, and members of the commission for what he described as the commission’s “meticulous planning and dedication” during the exercise.
According to him, the transparency in the distribution of electoral materials, prompt accreditation and transmission of results contributed to the success of the poll.
Jajere also commended the chairmen and leaders of the various political parties for the peaceful conduct of their campaigns and supporters during the election.
He said the participation of the political parties and adherence to electoral rules had helped to strengthen democratic institutions in the state.
The IPAC chairman also commended the civil society organisations and the media for their vigilance and objective reportage during the process.
He lauded the security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigerian Army and other security outfits, deployed for the election.
He said the professionalism and vigilance of the security agencies helped to provide a peaceful environment for voters to exercise their franchise without fear of intimidation or violence.
He congratulated the political parties that emerged victorious in the elections, saying the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured the majority of the chairmanship seats across the 17 LGAs.
He also congratulated APC, Action People’s Party and Action Democratic Party on their efforts in clinching some councillorship seats.
Jajere urged the elected council chairmen and councillors to regard themselves as servants of the people, irrespective of their party affiliations.
He further thanked Gov. Mai Mala Buni for providing necessary logistics, security and moral support for the electoral exercise.
He said the governor’s support contributed to the peaceful conduct of the election and the strengthening of democracy at the grassroots.
He urged the elected officials to justify the confidence reposed in them by the electorate by prioritising the interests and development of their respective communities.
