A businessman has publicly called out the Nigeria Police Force following the viral shooting of a young man in Delta State, raising questions over the conduct of the officers involved.
Reacting to the incident, the businessman compared the case to a recent controversy involving the Nigerian Army, where a serving corps member was allegedly killed and authorities were accused of giving misleading information until public pressure mounted.
“The Suspect Was Already Helpless”
According to him, the young man seen in the viral video had already been restrained by officers before he was shot.
He noted that the suspect’s hands were tied behind his back, arguing that the victim no longer posed any threat at the time of the incident.
The businessman stated that the suspect was also heard pleading with officers and allegedly offered to lead them to the person who sent him.
Questions Raised Over Police Actions
Expressing concern over the shooting, the businessman questioned why officers allegedly failed to use the opportunity to continue their investigation.
He also raised suspicions over the officer’s actions, claiming the shooting appeared deliberate rather than accidental.
In his words: “Few days ago, the Army killed a serving corps member (a youth) and officially lied about it through their official X handle, until people spoke up.
Now, a team of @PoliceNG SARS (rebranded) caught a suspect (a youth), very good job. They tied his hands to his back, which means he was powerless and posed no violent threat to anybody, and he was seen in the video clip begging to take them to the person who sent him. The officer hurriedly shot him, not accidentally but intentionally, and not once.
Two questions for the @PoliceNG:
- This young man was not resisting arrest and was willing to lead you to more investigations and discovery. Why didn’t you take advantage of that?
- Judging by the officer’s determination to confirm the boy dead, was he paid to silence the young man forever to stop him from exposing who sent him? We need answers.”
Police Confirm Officer’s Arrest
Meanwhile, the Delta State Police Command has already confirmed the arrest of the officer involved in the shooting.
Authorities stated that disciplinary actions and prosecution processes have commenced, while assuring the public that justice would be served.
