Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has shared his thoughts on relationships and marriage, advising people not to choose partners based solely on virginity or physical qualities.
In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), the actor noted that while virginity may represent purity, it does not automatically determine a person’s character, loyalty or ability to build a successful marriage.

Chiwetalu Agu stressed that people should take time to understand their partners before marriage, noting that character, kindness, respect and emotional maturity are the qualities that truly matter in a lasting relationship.
“Keeping your virginity does not automatically make you wife material. Don’t marry a woman simply because she is a virgin, and the same thing applies to men. Virginity signifies purity, not loyalty, good character, emotional intelligence or emotional maturity.
“For the sake of your life, peace, happiness and sanity, choose someone whose character has been tested and proven. Marry someone who genuinely connects with you, someone who is kind, respectful, loving and emotionally mature,” he said.
The actor added that finding a partner who is both a virgin and loyal, respectful, loving, emotionally mature and God-fearing is a blessing, but maintained that character is the foundation of every lasting marriage.
His message has since generated conversations online, with many agreeing that lasting relationships are built on character, compatibility and emotional maturity rather than a single quality.
