UCL: Marquinhos reveals text message from Arsenal’s Gabriel after PSG final win

Paris Saint-Germain captain, Marquinhos has revealed a text message he got from Arsenal’s Gabriel after both teams’ Champions League final last month.

Recall that PSG defeated Arsenal in the final to lift the Champions League after a penalty shoot-out.

Gabriel missed his penalty kick, and he was consoled by Marquinhos on the pitch in Budapest after the final whistle.

Speaking in a news conference ahead of Brazil’s international friendly with Egypt on Saturday, Marquinhos also revealed what he told his fellow countryman, Gabriel.

The PSG centre-back said, “A day later, I received a message from him [Gabriel] thanking me for that moment, for the support, for the hug, and for the words I’d shared with him.

“I told him that, in my opinion, he was the best centre-back in the world this season. He simply didn’t deserve to carry that burden because, of course, we all want to score penalties.

“I told him that nothing about that moment would take away from the wonderful season he’d had and that we were going to need him very much. Those were my words to him.”
