Chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dino Melaye, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must be defeated at the 2027 general elections.
Melaye made the declaration in a post on his verified X account on Wednesday, as opposition politicians continue discussions over the possibility of forming a broader alliance ahead of the elections.
“Coalition talk is on. Tinubu must go,” the former senator wrote.
His comment comes amid renewed efforts by opposition parties and political actors to coordinate their activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The ongoing coalition discussions are being facilitated in part by the G100 initiative, which has been engaging opposition parties and political stakeholders on the possibility of working together against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The group had called for opposition parties to move beyond individual interests and develop a coordinated strategy for the 2027 elections. It also proposed a framework that includes a Government of National Competence and a single four-year transition term.

The initiative has involved parties including the ADC, Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP).
A National Opposition Summit was subsequently held in Abuja on August 31, with discussions centred on creating a common framework for cooperation among opposition parties ahead of 2027.
However, some prominent opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso and Rotimi Amaechi, were absent from the summit.
The coalition process is expected to continue with further consultations and negotiations among the participating political parties.
