Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has firmly denied claims that he owes approximately £ 4,106, or N8.5 million, related to a proposed UK tour, describing the allegations as false and damaging to his reputation.
The controversy started after a UK-based promoter, Otis Ayodele Kubeyinje, popularly known as Baddest DJ, publicly accused the singer on social media of failing to settle expenses incurred for the planned tour.
The promoter also alleged that he had supporting documents and threatened further disclosures if the debt was not cleared.
Responding to the allegations, Dakolo denied any liability through his lawyers and also stated that the contractual agreement explicitly placed all production and promotional costs on the promoter, not the artist.
They argued that the claims misrepresented the terms and amounted to defamation.
“Dakolo has instructed us to demand an immediate retraction of these false allegations, a public apology, and the removal of all defamatory publications,” the statement read.
The legal team warned that if their demands are not met, they will file lawsuits in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom to protect the singer’s reputation and seek compensation.
This situation has led to online discussions, with some fans backing the singer’s view on artist-promoter roles while others want the issue settled privately. Dakolo has faced public financial disputes before, including a previous request for payment from a Tinubu aide for another job.
So far, DJ Timmy has not officially responded to the legal warning. Dakolo, who is recognized for his soulful music and advocacy, says he met his responsibilities and will take legal action if necessary.
