The brewing controversy between relationship commentator Solomon Buchi and Nigerian TikTok star Peller appears to be cooling off after days of heated exchanges over an explosive allegation concerning infidelity.
The dispute erupted after Peller, during a livestream, referred to a man identified only as “Mr Buchi” and alleged that he had slept with another man’s wife. Buchi subsequently identified himself as the person Peller was referring to and vehemently denied the allegation.
Buchi said the allegation was false and deeply damaging, claiming it had affected his mental health and resulted in what he described as a nervous breakdown documented by his GP. He also disclosed that he had reported the matter to the Metropolitan Police in the UK, where Peller was at the time.
However, the temperature appeared to drop after Peller publicly clarified his earlier statement.
Peller insisted that Solomon Buchi was not the “Mr Buchi” he had referred to, explaining that he was talking about a fan with whom he had previously had an online exchange.
“I was referring to one of my fans, Mr Buchi, whom I had an online banter with, not Solomon Buchi. Is he the only Buchi in the world?” Peller said.
The clarification has significantly changed the complexion of the controversy, which had threatened to move from social-media drama into a potential legal battle.
Buchi, who initially reacted strongly to the alleged accusation, subsequently struck a calmer tone while addressing the controversy. He also offered Peller advice concerning people around him, suggesting that the young streamer should be cautious about his associations.
Interestingly, the latest development comes barely weeks after Buchi publicly advised Peller and his wife, Jarvis, to take marriage seriously and seek counselling ahead of their wedding.
But just when it appeared the drama was winding down, businessman and socialite Cubana Chief Priest jumped into the controversy, criticising Buchi over his decision to involve the police and declaring his support for Peller.
Despite the fresh intervention, the direct confrontation between Buchi and Peller appears to have lost much of its earlier heat, with Peller’s clarification providing a possible off-ramp from what had rapidly become one of the weekend’s biggest Nigerian social-media dramas.
For now, the “Mr Buchi” mystery remains at the heart of the controversy, but the explosive showdown between Buchi and Peller appears to have subsided.
