A woman has sparked widespread reactions on social media after sharing how her father’s unwavering support throughout her childhood and early adulthood helped shape her confidence, relationships and marriage.
In a lengthy post, the woman recalled that her father always responded quickly to her needs, a gesture that often led her brothers to believe she was his favourite child.
According to her, her father later explained that his actions were intentional because he wanted to protect her from situations where financial needs could make her vulnerable to manipulation.
Father explains why he always provided for his daughter
The woman said, “One day, he told them it’s not like he loves me more but because I’m a girl and little things that money can buy is what use to lure girls to have their ways with them. That’s why he is always there so I don’t have any reason to embarrass him.”
She went on to describe how he consistently met her needs, including recharging both of her phone lines every Friday, buying her clothes, advising her on personal safety and rewarding academic excellence with gifts such as a laptop after she passed her WASSCE in one sitting.
The woman also credited her father with giving her the confidence to reject relationships that showed signs of disrespect.
Story sparks conversation on fathers’ roles
Reflecting on her marriage, the woman revealed that even after 12 years as a wife, she still finds it easier to ask her father and siblings for help than her husband because of the strong sense of security she grew up with.
She concluded, “So yes, you are right, Men need to do better to provide for their families. Many of these young girls had to grow up too fast because they have no one to depend on.”
Her post has since generated discussions online, with many social media users praising her father’s parenting approach, while others debated the role of fathers in building their daughters’ confidence and emotional security.
