Sultan of Sokoto Urges Hope as Nigeria Marks 66 Years

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has urged Nigerians to remain hopeful about the country’s future as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.

In a goodwill message issued on Thursday, the Sultan congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, federal and state governments, traditional rulers, religious leaders and Nigerians at home and abroad on the anniversary.

He acknowledged the challenges facing the country but said Nigerians should continue to believe in Nigeria and work collectively to strengthen its unity, peace and development.

“Nigeria will be better, Insha Allah,” the Sultan said, urging citizens to remain patriotic and committed to the nation’s progress.

He said Nigeria’s abundant human and material resources give the country the potential to overcome its difficulties, provided leaders and citizens uphold justice, good governance, mutual respect, peace and national unity.

The Sultan also called on Nigerians to support efforts to improve security, economic development and social cohesion, while urging political, religious and traditional leaders to place the national interest above personal, ethnic or sectional considerations.

He appealed to citizens to reject violence, hatred, intolerance and other divisive tendencies, advocating dialogue, understanding and peaceful coexistence.

The Sultan prayed for continued peace and stability, wisdom for Nigeria’s leaders and prosperity for citizens. He expressed optimism that through collective prayers, sincerity of purpose and concerted efforts, the country would overcome its challenges.

He wished Nigerians at home and abroad a peaceful and memorable 66th Independence Anniversary.
