The Sokoto State Government has commenced salary payments to 3,100 newly recruited civil servants following the completion of a verification exercise to confirm their presence at their respective duty posts.
The Head of the Sokoto State Civil Service, Abdulkadir Ahmed, announced this on Tuesday during the official flag-off of the salary payment at the Cabinet Office in Sokoto.
Ahmed explained that the verification was necessary to ensure that all the newly recruited workers had reported to the ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) where they were posted before being enrolled for salary payments.
He said the recruitment was part of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s commitment to fulfilling his campaign promise to create employment opportunities for the state’s unemployed population.
The Head of Service urged the new employees to demonstrate punctuality, dedication and professionalism, stressing that their commitment was essential to improving public service delivery across the state.
He also highlighted the administration’s skills acquisition and empowerment programmes, through which thousands of women and youths had received vocational training, equipment and start-up grants to establish businesses and achieve financial independence.
The government said the latest recruitment formed part of its broader employment drive, which had seen more than 8,000 workers recruited across various sectors within three years of the Aliyu administration.
According to the government, the health sector accounted for 1,805 new employees, comprising 1,500 nurses and midwives, 175 doctors, 45 pharmacists, and 85 radiographers and other health professionals.
It added that 2,747 personnel had been recruited into the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps, while the Sokoto State Marshal recently recruited another 1,550 personnel.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Governor for the employment opportunity and pledged to discharge their duties diligently.
The state government maintained that the recruitments were conducted without regard to applicants’ political affiliations, insisting that all qualified indigenes were given equal opportunities.
The administration said the employment initiative, alongside its skills acquisition and empowerment programmes, was aimed at reducing unemployment, strengthening the state workforce and improving the livelihoods of residents.
The statement was signed by Abubakar Bawa, Director-General of Media and Publicity at Government House, Sokoto, on 13 October 2026.
