The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old suspected cultist and seized a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge during a stop-and-search operation in the Ijaiye/Ojokoro area.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said operatives intercepted a motorcycle carrying three passengers during a routine patrol. A subsequent search led to the recovery of the firearm and ammunition from one of the riders.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the prohibited Eiye Confraternity, according to Ms Adebisi. He further revealed that he and accomplices—who managed to evade arrest—were en route to attack certain individuals when they were stopped.
The suspect remains in custody, with efforts underway to track down the fleeing members and recover any additional weapons in their possession, Ms Adebisi added.
The state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, reaffirmed the command’s resolve to intensify intelligence-led policing and proactive operations aimed at curbing cultism and violent crime across Lagos. He urged residents to remain vigilant and supply timely, credible information to assist the police in safeguarding lives and property.
