Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested three suspected cultists and recovered a cache of firearms, ammunition, and dangerous weapons during an intelligence-led operation in Imota.
The command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that the arrests followed credible intelligence from members of the public regarding cultist activities in the area.
“Acting on the information, police operatives stormed the location and apprehended Jelili Adeyemo, 37, alleged to be the group’s armourer; Bisoye Adewale, 42; and John Okeafo, 60,” she said.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects include one Beretta pistol, one locally made pistol, seven Dane guns, ten live cartridges, seven expended cartridges, one stun gun, two handcuffs, and four cutlasses.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are members of the Aiye Confraternity. The recovered Beretta pistol is believed to have belonged to a notorious cultist known as “Mayibone,” who remains at large.
Mrs Adebisi confirmed that the suspects have been arraigned and remanded, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing gang members and recover additional weapons.
