Three Nigerian nationals have been arrested by the police in Ghana over alleged robberies targeting bank customers in Kumasi and its environs.
Godwin Ahianyo, the police spokesperson for the Ashanti Region, disclosed this on Tuesday, saying the suspects were arrested on Saturday at about 11:30 p.m.
He said the police acted on intelligence and launched an operation that led to the arrest of two Nigerians, identified as Aboy Promise, 30, and Favour Uwalaka, 45, at a hotel in Moshie Zongo.
“A search conducted in their rooms resulted in the recovery of GH¢1,600.00, assorted mobile phones, a Royal motorbike and a master key used to gain unauthorised access to victims’ vehicles and steal cash,” he said.
According to the police, the suspects admitted during interrogation to their involvement in the robberies and identified two accomplices as Chinedu, alias Alhaji, and Kingsley, alias KC.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the syndicate monitored banking premises, identified customers who withdrew substantial sums of money and trailed them before attacking and robbing them.
“They also broke into unattended vehicles belonging to bank customers using a master key to steal cash kept inside,” the police stated.
Mr Ahianyo said the suspects subsequently led the police team to another hotel in Dechemso, a suburb of Kumasi, where Kingsley, 35, also a Nigerian national, was arrested.
He said the remaining accomplice, Mr Chinedu, was still at large.
The police appealed to the public to provide credible information that could lead to his arrest, urging anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts to report to the nearest police station or call the emergency numbers 191, 112 or the toll-free MTN and Telecel line 18555.
The police spokesperson said the suspects admitted to robbing a victim of GH¢15,000 on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, at Asokore Mampong after the victim withdrew the money from Kwamang Rural Bank.
“They also admitted to similar robberies at the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations within Kumasi and its environs,” he said.
Mr Ahianyo added that the three arrested suspects had been handed over to the Ashanti Regional police command and were assisting with investigations.
