The Bauchi State Police Command says its Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) has arrested five suspects and recovered stolen household items and suspected Indian hemp in two separate operations in Bauchi metropolis on August 3, 2026.
This was disclosed in a press release signed by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, and issued on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
According to the statement, VCRU operatives on routine patrol at Doya Quarters at about 2:00pm intercepted a tricycle, Keke NAPEP with Reg. No. TRR123VD, conveying three occupants.
The suspects were identified as Sadiq Abdullahi, 27; Muhammad Suleman, 18, both of Unguwar Sarakuna, Bauchi; and Aliyu Abubakar, 21, the Keke rider from Kofar Gombe, Bauchi.
During a search, police recovered four boxes containing assorted new shoes, clothes and jewelries, one 6kg gas cylinder, one 32-inch LG flat screen TV, and one table gas cooker.
Under preliminary interrogation, the suspects confessed to conspiring with one “Nanu”, currently at large, to break into a house in Unguwar Sarakuna and steal the items.
Police said they traced the owner of the house, who reported with his wife. In her statement, the wife said she traveled to Jos on July 31, 2026, and left the properties in her room. She alleged that some clothes and a gold earring were missing from the recovered items.
In a related operation the same day at about 4:00pm, the VCRU team at Bayan Gari arrested two men seen exchanging parcels of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspects are Mansur Sani, 25, and Umar Muhammad, 30, both of Bakin Kura, Bauchi. Two parcels of the suspected cannabis were recovered from them.
SP Habib said investigation into both cases has commenced. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect, “Nanu”, in connection with the burglary, while discreet investigation is also ongoing to unmask the supplier of the suspected Indian hemp.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the VCRU operatives for their vigilance and professionalism. He reaffirmed the Command’s determination to rid the state of criminal elements and urged members of the public to continue providing useful information to the Police.
The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
