A member representing Jos North in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Adamu Aliyu, has denied rumours that he resigned from the All Progressive Congress (APC).
He stated that such rumours are the work of political schemers.
While addressing journalists in Jos, the lawmaker affirmed that he remains a fully registered and card-carrying member of the APC in Naraguta B Ward.
He reiterated his unwavering loyalty to the party under whose platform he was elected in the 2023 general elections.
“I have learned that there are rumours circulating that I have resigned from the APC. In addition to being distant from the truth, is the pride of mischievous people who have malicious purposes towards our party and it’s many supporters in the Jos North local government area,” he said.
Aliyu explained that party membership or withdrawal follows an established procedure beginning at the ward level, insisting that no such process had been initiated by him.
“I still remain a duly registered, card-carrying member of the APC in Naraguta B Ward and, by the grace of God, the member representing Jos North North Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly on the platform of the APC,” he stated.
The lawmaker acknowledged that there were disputes arising from the recently conducted APC primaries in his constituency, alleging that they were instigated by aspirants who failed to secure the party’s mandate.
“As a loyal party man and law-abiding citizen, I will pursue all lawful and constitutional channels to ensure that the renewed mandate freely given to me by the people is sustained, protected and upheld,” he declared.
Aliyu assured his supporters that he would not relent until what he described as the people’s mandate was preserved, stressing that abandoning the struggle would amount to betraying the confidence reposed in him.
He attributed the current political tension to what he described as envy over the developmental achievements recorded during his three years in office, saying some “disloyal and unfaithful elements” were bent on reversing the gains made.
The lawmaker called on the leadership of the APC at the ward, local government, state and national levels to remain vigilant against individuals allegedly working to undermine the party ahead of future elections.
He further pledged to mobilise support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Caleb Mutfwang, saying the people of his constituency remained committed to ensuring “a resounding victory” for both leaders.
“We shall remain loyal, peaceful and law-abiding. We will not allow distractions to derail our commitment to the progress of our party and the development of Plateau State and Nigeria,” Aliyu added.
Similarly, the Jos North Local Government chairman of the APC, Hon. Shehu Inuwa Litti, corroborated Adamu Aliyu’s, assertions, saying the part has not seen any communication stating the member has resigned.
“As the APC, party chairman, we have not received any verbal or written communication, from Hon Adamu Aliyu, telling us he had resigned from the party,” Hon Litti said.
