Mr Faniyan Ayodeji, the Plateau Commissioner of Police (CP) in Plateau, has warned perpetrators of jungle justice to desist from the act.
Ayodeji gave the warning on Thursday in Jos, during his maiden press conference shortly after assuming duty as the 47th CP in the state.
The CP, who described jungle justice as a criminal act, warned that perpetrators would face the full wrath of the law.
“Jungle justice is a criminal act and where it results in the death of a suspect, constitutes culpable homicide,” he said.
Ayodeji urged members of the public to hand over suspected criminals to security agencies for investigation and prosecution in accordance with due process.
The commissioner also pledged to introduce a new policing standard anchored on human rights, professionalism, accountability, integrity and community partnership.
“My mandate is ambitious but clear; to make policing in Plateau a positive model for others,” he said.
Ayodeji declared zero tolerance for corruption and unprofessional conduct, while promising stronger collaboration with other security agencies and improved welfare for personnel.
He also said that the command would adopt intelligence-led and technology-driven policing to strengthen crime prevention and protect lives and property.
The commissioner disclosed that 30 suspects had been arrested from July to date, adding that one AK-47 rifle, three locally fabricated rifles and 30 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered within the period under review.
He added that one suspect was also neutralised during the period under review.
Ayodeji appealed to Plateau residents to provide timely and credible information to the Police, assuring them that the command remained open, accessible and ready to serve.
“The command under my watch will be open and accessible.” He said.
