Digital payment platform OPay has threatened legal action against an 𝕏 user over a social media post claiming that the fintech company would shut down its operations on September 1, 2026.
The user, identified as Cute Hafser (@Haifah_Er_Abba), reportedly shared the claim online, prompting OPay to issue a formal warning demanding that the post be deleted.
Through its Chief Legal Counsel, Akinfolabi Moses Rokosu, the company accused the user of circulating what it described as false and misleading information capable of damaging OPay’s reputation and business.
OPay warned that it would consider legal action if the alleged misinformation continued to be circulated.
The development follows the company’s earlier clarification that it had no plans to shut down or suspend its operations on September 1.
OPay had reassured customers that its services would continue normally and urged the public to disregard unverified reports concerning a possible shutdown.
In its latest warning, the company said:
> “OPay takes the publication and circulation of false and misleading information seriously.”
The fintech firm also warned users against creating or spreading unverified claims about its operations, stressing that such publications would not be taken lightly.
