BREAKING: Former Delta Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan Dies At 71

Former Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, is dead. He was 71.

His death was announced on Monday morning, October 19, 2026, in a statement issued on behalf of the family by Toju Anire Uduaghan.

The statement, titled “Announcement of the Passing of His Excellency, Dr. Chief Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, CON,” said the family is devastated by his passing.

“It is with hearts weighed down by immeasurable grief and profound sorrow that we announce the passing to glory of our beloved Father, Brother, Uncle and Patriarch, His Excellency, Dr. Chief Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, former Governor of Delta State, who departed this world on the morning of 19th October 2026,” the statement read.

“His passing has left us devastated. Words can hardly express the depth of our sorrow at the loss of a man who meant so much to our family and whose life and service touched countless others across Delta State and Nigeria.”

The family described the late former governor as a source of strength, a father figure, and a respected elder whose legacy will endure.

Uduaghan, a medical doctor turned politician, was scheduled to celebrate his 72nd birthday on October 22, just three days from now.

He served as Delta State Commissioner for Health from 1999 to 2003 and as Secretary to the State Government from 2003 to 2007 under Chief James Ibori, before becoming Governor.

He governed Delta State from 2007 to 2015, completing two terms in office under his 3-Point Agenda of Peace and Security, Human Capital Development and Infrastructural Development. He handed over to Senator Ifeanyi Okowa in May 2015.

His death comes months after the family had to publicly debunk fake news of his demise that circulated on Facebook and WhatsApp in June.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced by the family.
