The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria following a tragic road accident in Boumerdès Province that claimed 27 lives and left over 40 others injured.
In a press release issued on Sunday, August 2, 2026, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, Nigeria said it was “deeply saddened” by the devastating bus crash that occurred near El Karma on Friday, July 31, 2026.
According to the statement signed by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the bus was travelling from Sétif to Algiers when the accident occurred.
“Nigeria also notes with sympathy the declaration of three days of national mourning by His Excellency President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in honour of the victims of this tragic incident,” the statement read.
The Federal Government said it “stands in solidarity with the Government and people of Algeria and shares in their grief over the painful loss of lives.”
“We extend our sincere condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed,” it added.
The Ministry also wished those who sustained injuries “a speedy and full recovery,” and expressed confidence “in the resilience of the Algerian people as they mourn this national tragedy.”
