The Nigerian Navy has intercepted 500 litres of products suspected to be illegally sourced Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa in Folu Community, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.
This was contained in a statement made available to Defence Correspondents in Abuja on Tuesday by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho.
The statement explained that the seizure was made on Monday by personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Lekki during an operation aimed at disrupting the illegal trade and storage of petroleum products and the proliferation of illicit drugs in the area.
It added that the suspects fled the scene before they could be apprehended, while the recovered products and substances were secured and conveyed to the base for further investigation and appropriate action.
It pointed out that the operation formed part of its sustained efforts to protect national economic interests and safeguard public safety and security within its Area of Operations.
