Nollywood actor Chief Imo has sparked reactions on social media after strongly criticizing people who claim that marriage and having children should not be regarded as achievements.
In a viral video circulating online, the actor expressed disbelief over the growing opinion that personal success should not be measured by marriage or parenthood.
He argued that such views ignore the sacrifices made by parents and the value of raising a family.
Reacting passionately, Chief Imo questioned why anyone would dismiss marriage and childbearing as achievements while continuing to benefit from the love and support of their own parents.
“What did I hear you say? Wait a minute, what did you just say? That marriage is not an achievement? Bearing children is not an achievement?
Is that what you’re saying? But your parents had you. You are proud of your parents. Every week you visit home to see your parents. You go home to make them happy,” he said.
The actor went on to criticize those promoting the idea, insisting that they were misleading younger people about the importance of family life.
“And you are here opening your dirty mouth to say marriage and having children is not an achievement. Then why did they have you? Why are you bearing their name? Keep on deceiving yourself. Keep on talking rubbish,” he stated.
In one of the video’s most controversial moments, Chief Imo invoked traditional deities while condemning those who hold such views.
“Na Ogun go kill you. Na Amadioha go strike that your stupid mouth where you open dey talk say marriage is not an achievement or bearing children is not an achievement,” he said.
He also praised parents for the sacrifices they make in raising children, arguing that many people eventually repay those sacrifices by caring for their parents later in life.
According to the actor, people who succeed financially often support their families by buying cars, clothes, food, and other necessities for their parents, bringing them joy in return.
“Your mother suffered. You come here and keep deceiving young people, telling them that having children of your own that will take care of you, as you’re taking care of your parents now, is not an achievement,” he said.
Chief Imo maintained that building a family and becoming a responsible parent remain significant milestones, despite changing opinions about marriage and personal fulfillment.
