On a recent episode of Drink Champs, Memphis Bleek revealed several great events. One fresh disclosure he made put light on a watershed point in his career.

For the first time, the former Roc-A-Fella rapper revealed that he was first offered the main part in the 2002 film Drumline. Surprisingly, he declined, and Nick Cannon was cast instead. This part finally catapulted Nick Cannon to success, but Bleek had misgivings at the time because he want to focus on his rap career.

Bleek also revealed that his mentor at the time, JAY-Z, was upset that he declined the part. Bleek, in his own words, exclaimed, “Oh, guy. If I could go back in time — and you n-ggas don’t know this — I would never have shared this story. I declined Drumline. He wanted me to do everything, and I was terrified.” Following his open revelation, Bleek said that he had been hesitant to accept the position, despite the fact that it could have been a big career turning moment. He frankly pondered on this squandered chance, indicating how he would have chosen differently if he had realized the film’s enormous influence.

Hov was furious with me!” Memphis Bleek kept talking. “I recall Hov being enraged at me. ‘Why you ain’t doing it?!’ ‘Bro, I was afraid,’ I recall telling him. I’ve never done any acting.’ And I remember Hov paying for my acting classes.” Bleek recalled being concerned about compromising his music career. He was on the verge of success at the time. And the thought of breaking into the acting business posed a huge risk. He was concerned about the ramifications of failure, especially when it came to returning to his roots and explaining any setbacks to people who had supported him.

What’s the worst part? “Me and Nick shared management,” Bleek continued. “Back in the day, Nick wanted to be a rapper, so he was in Marcy with me.” And Nick stepped in, and here we are.” Although Bleek realizes the film’s significance, he wishes he could go back in time to pursue that opportunity. “But that’s one thing … if I could rewind time, I would have did that,” he replied. “I was on some, ‘I’d rather do this rap s**t,’ similar to what Ja Rule did with the Fast & Furious s**t.” “I f***ed up big time with that.” “Rap was everything to me back then,” Bleek said. “Hip Hop saved my life, so I’m grateful.”
