Nollywood actress Lizzy Gold has stirred conversation online after sharing her opinion on marriage and financial status.
In a viral video circulating on X (formerly Twitter), the actress spoke on how money can influence respect in relationships, especially from a woman’s perspective.
“As a man, if you want to earn your respect from a woman, marry someone you’re richer than. If you marry a woman that is richer than you, you’re on your own. She will never respect you. As for me, I will marry a man who is far richer than me.
It is rare to see a woman that will respect a man she is richer than, because after some time she will lose respect for you and you won’t have control over her. Every man should also have a spec, and your spec should be according to your pocket, not like you’re earning 300,000 and going for a woman that is earning 500,000,” she said.
Her statement has sparked mixed reactions online, with many people debating whether financial imbalance truly determines respect in a relationship.
While some agreed with her stance, others argued that respect should be based on character, not wealth or status.
One user wrote, “Respect no suppose be about money. She fit dey inside on small boy DM dey beg am for love,” while another added, “Some truth dey here sha.”
Her comment has once again sparked conversations around love, money, and the expectations people carry into relationships.
