Detectives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested a 53-year-old man, Gambo Hassan alias “Anahaka”, for allegedly disguising as a commercial motorcycle rider to kidnap, rob and rape women in Bauchi metropolis.
The suspect, of Igbo Quarters, Bauchi, was arrested on 11th September 2026 at about 8:45 p.m. by operatives of ‘B’ Division GRA during a routine patrol along Adamu Jumba Road.
This was disclosed in a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, on 13th September 2026.
According to the Command, the suspect used a Bajaj motorcycle with Reg. No. BAU 150G, a black face mask and a face cap to pose as an “Okada” rider during evening hours. He would then target unsuspecting passengers, particularly women, before robbing, kidnapping and in some cases, raping them.
At the point of arrest, he was found in possession of a sharp knife.
35 Victims Identified
During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crimes and led detectives to identify victims of his activities.
He initially identified 15 women within Bauchi metropolis. The number later rose to 35 women as investigation progressed.
Following a search warrant executed at his residence, police recovered several items suspected to be proceeds of crime, including 15 assorted phones (Samsung Galaxy Fold, Redmi, 2 iTel, 2 iPhones, 4 Infinix, 2 Techno, etc) and three power banks.
Others are six ladies’ wristwatches, five Bundles of women’s wrappers, three women hijabs, six assorted native caps, cash sum of ₦425,435, as well as Kenyan and Turkish currency notes, and other items.
Suspect Transferred to SCID
The Command said the suspect and all recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Bauchi for “discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.”
The Commissioner of Police commended the detectives for their “vigilance and professionalism” and assured that the Command remains resolute in clamping down on criminal elements.
CP Aliyu also urged members of the public, especially victims, to come forward with useful information to aid investigation.
The arrest has been described by residents as a major breakthrough in addressing the spate of evening kidnappings and robberies linked to fake commercial riders in the state capital.
