Liverpool have dismissed head coach Arne Slot following a disappointing campaign that saw the club fail to successfully defend its Premier League crown.
The Merseyside club announced on Saturday that the Dutch manager, who spent two seasons at Anfield, had been relieved of his duties with immediate effect after Liverpool ended the season in fifth place.
Slot’s position had come under increasing pressure in recent months as a series of underwhelming performances sparked frustration among supporters. Reports also suggested growing unrest within the squad, with Mohamed Salah emerging as one of the most vocal figures during the difficult period.
Confirming the development, Liverpool said: “Liverpool FC can confirm Arne Slot is to depart his role as head coach with immediate effect and that the process to appoint a successor is underway.”
The club explained that the decision was taken as part of a broader effort to chart a new course for the future.
“That does not diminish the work Arne has done here, or the respect we have for him,” the statement added.
“Nor is it a reflection of his talents. Rather, it is indicative of the need for a different approach.
“Arne leaves with our gratitude, with a Premier League title to his name, and with the knowledge that he and his family will always be welcomed back at Anfield.”
Slot departs having guided Liverpool to a league title during his tenure, but the club’s struggles this season ultimately led to the decision to seek new leadership ahead of the next campaign.
