Lagos to Raze Unsafe Buildings Adjoining Alakija Collapse Site

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed plans to demolish distressed structures adjoining the site of the recent building collapse at Alakija Bus Stop.

The exercise, which follows ongoing search, rescue and recovery operations in Satellite Town, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, comes after a joint structural assessment by LASEMA, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), and other emergency responders identified the adjoining buildings as unsafe.

According to the agency, the distressed structures pose a significant risk to emergency responders, nearby residents, and the wider public. The demolition will be closely supervised by relevant authorities to prevent any secondary structural collapse.

LASEMA has advised residents to stay clear of the affected area during the operation and urged motorists to comply fully with all traffic and safety directives issued by emergency officials on-site.

Expressing gratitude for the understanding and cooperation shown by residents, the agency assured the public that all decisions taken at the scene are guided solely by the imperative to safeguard lives and property. Further updates will be provided as the controlled demolition and other emergency operations progress.
