A 26-year-old single mother has reportedly dropped out of nursing school after her mother allegedly demanded $400 per week to care for her two children while she attended classes.
The story was shared by an X user, @NasheCeezet_zw, who claimed that her sister worked as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) earning $19 per hour before gaining admission to a two-year nursing programme.
According to the post, the woman had hoped to become a nurse and asked her mother to help look after her children during the programme.
‘Can You Watch the Kids?’
The woman reportedly has two children and had been working as a CNA while preparing to pursue her nursing career.
The X user claimed that the woman asked their mother if she could watch the children while she attended nursing school, promising to pay her once she became a nurse.
“She asked our mom: ‘Can you watch the kids while I’m in school? Just 2 years. I’ll pay you when I’m a nurse.’”
Her mother allegedly agreed to help, telling her that family members should support one another.
“Mom said: ‘Of course, that’s what family is for.’”
‘$200 Per Week, Per Kid’
However, the arrangement allegedly changed when the woman started school.
According to the post, on her first day of nursing school, the mother informed her that she would charge $200 per week for each child, amounting to $400 weekly.
“Day 1 of nursing school, mom texted: ‘$200 per week, per kid. $400/week. Cash App me by 7AM or don’t drop them off.’”
The daughter reportedly expressed surprise, claiming she had understood that her mother would care for the children without charge.
“My sister: ‘I thought it was free?’”
Her mother allegedly responded: “Free? I’m not a free daycare. I have my own life. $400 or stay home.”
‘She Dropped Out Week 2’
The X user claimed that the woman earned about $760 per week from her job as a CNA, meaning the proposed childcare payment would have taken more than half of her weekly income.
The financial pressure reportedly contributed to her decision to leave nursing school during the second week.
“She dropped out week 2. Lost her $1,200 deposit for nursing school,” he claimed.

‘My Daughter Is Lazy’
The situation reportedly became more controversial after the mother allegedly described her daughter as lazy in a Facebook post.
“ My daughter is lazy. Had a chance to go to nursing school and quit. Some people don’t want better,” the mother reportedly wrote.
However, the X user argued that the woman did not quit because she was unwilling to improve her life, but because she could not afford the childcare arrangement proposed by her mother.

The story has sparked debate online over whether grandparents should charge their adult children for childcare and whether the mother was simply setting a reasonable boundary or making it difficult for her daughter to pursue a career in nursing.
