Nigerian comedian McEdopikin has raised concerns over the deteriorating condition of roads in Benin City, Edo State, saying the situation has reached an alarming level.
In a video shared online, the comedian showed several roads in the city while describing the challenges motorists are allegedly facing because of the poor road conditions.
“There’s no pliable road in Benin City anymore. It has gotten to the worst level. I’m not even exaggerating. You know say e get level wey e go reach, everybody need to burst cry comot.”
McEdopikin advised Nigerians living abroad who may be planning to visit Benin during the December period to prepare for the condition of the roads, joking that even vehicles commonly considered suitable for rough terrain may struggle.
“If you dey diaspora and you dey plan to come Benin for December, by Caterpillar. Jeep, Hilux none of them dey work. Everything go go down.”
He also joked that mechanics and towing operators were now among those benefiting from the situation, claiming that vehicle breakdowns had become common.
“Na mechanic just dey enjoy now for Benin. From Oga Monday to Oga Thursday all of them fully booked.”
Taking his joke further, McEdopikin described a situation in which a mechanic called to repair a broken-down vehicle could himself experience a breakdown.
“My guy motor spoil, dey call mechanic to come fix am, the mechanic motor spoil for road. Dey call towing van make e come tow my guy motor wey spoil, towing van spoil for road.”
He concluded by lamenting what he described as the deteriorating state of the city, jokingly saying even the Government Reserved Area (GRA) had become “gra-gra.”
“Guy Benin don spoil. We no get GRA again o. Our GRA now na gra-gra.”
The comedian’s comments were accompanied by videos showing the road conditions he was referring to, as he used humour to draw attention to the challenges motorists in Benin City are facing.
